Find your inspiration

You have a story that’s waiting to be told. You know it can inspire others. If only you could get it down.

That’s why we’ve created this retreat. To give you time to immerse in your story and build momentum, whether you’re just getting started or are already in the middle of a manuscript.

Choose from either beginning or intermediate workshops, with a maximum of 12 students each.

You’ll spend 6 days in the magical town of San Miguel de Allende—voted #1 city in the world by Travel & Leisure—where you’ll experience intimate gatherings, literary craft talks, feedback on your work and an opportunity to share your writing in a supportive community. Veteran instructors Hope Edelman and Laura Fraser will help you hone your craft and find new energy, ideas, and direction for telling your story and sharing it with others.

San Miguel de Allende, a UNESCO World Heritage site, will enchant you with its colonial architecture, blooming courtyards, rooftop vistas, innovative art, and world-class cuisine. The retreat will be held in a beautiful, hacienda-style B&B in the historic Centro district, within easy walking distance of galleries, shops, restaurants, live music, and the colorful artisan mercado. And you’ll have plenty of time off during the week to both work on your pages and explore all the town has to offer.

A charming space to relax and write

The Rooftop Writers memoir retreat will be held at Casa de la Cuesta, one of San Miguel de Allende’s finest boutique hotels. Featuring eight single rooms, the casa hosts a bountiful Mexican breakfast and offers plenty of spaces to write or dream. When those rooms fill up (reserve yours fast!) you’ll have access to other nearby places to stay, all within easy walking distance of our meeting place.
